As in any culture, holidays are much anticipated and enjoyed days in Bolivia. We celebrate some of the same holidays that you do in the U.S. but there are a number of holidays unique to Bolivia. There are days to commemorate special events and celebrate special places or individuals, but there are also several days that honor certain groups of people. For example, Día del Maestro - Day of the Teacher, Día del Estudiante - Day of the Student, Día de la Mujer - Day of the Woman, Día de la Amistad - Friendship Day, Día del Trabajador - Worker Day, etc.
One of these important days that we make sure to celebrate each year at New Hope Tutoring Center is Día del Niño, Day of the Child, on April 12th. The center exists for children and we are anxious to recognize them. We have done various activities each year, including special games, crafts, movies, puppets, music, small gifts, cake and other snacks. This year, we did everything with an animal theme, including design your own new animal. As always, it was a day full of fun and blessings.
We are taught so much by these children that we serve. We love to work with them, teach them, watch them grow, make them feel special and love on them with hugs and extra blessings; and on days like Day of the Child, celebrate them. In the same way that we can’t wait to see and interact with these children, the Lord waits anxiously for me. He desires to teach and direct me, watch me grow, and above all, lavish His love upon me.
God has called us to love and care for the children of the world. But He has also called us to BE His children. I pray that you feel celebrated today as one of His own.
John 3:1, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
