Rev. Doug Gilmore was elected to serve a one year term at the Eastern Annual Conference on May 8, 2015. This is the second time Rev. Gilmore has served as Conference Superintendent. He previously served from 1990 to 1998.
J. Douglas Gilmore, was born and raised in Marlton, New Jersey which is about 13 miles from Philadelphia. So he is from South Jersey and not North Jersey and does not talk like people from New York City, though he does have a South Jersey/Philly accent.
He is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the Eastern Conference and has had special assignment from 1987 to the present as the Senior Pastor of Wiley Church, a non-denominational ministry started by his grandfather, Rev. John Hackett. This year the Eastern Conference elected him to serve one year as the Conference Superintendent in order to help with the sudden transition in leadership.
He was assigned the pastorate at Sawyer Evangelical Church, Bradford, PA from 1980-87.
He is also the Chairman of the Eastern Conference Board of Ministry and of the Denominational Ministry Committee.
Supt. Gilmore graduated with a BA from Messiah College, Grantham, PA (1974) and with a M. Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary (1978). When he was the Pastor at Sawyer Evangelical Church did some work in Franciscan Studies at St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY which exposed him to the rich spiritual theology and philosophy of the Medieval Church.
He and his wife, Linda, are grateful to God for 37 wonderful years of marriage. God has blessed them with four beautiful daughters, Becky, Pam, Katie and Ginny, three great sons-in-law Mike (Becky), Matt (Pam) and Jim (Katie). Life has especially become filled with great joy and fun with the arrival of four grandchildren, Nikki, Desi, Jimmy and Celena.
Supt. Gilmore loves to hike in the woods, along the Delaware-Raritan Canals, on the beach and among the fascinating and diverse streets and neighborhoods of great cities like Philadelphia and New York City. Traveling in the USA and abroad is a passion and the opportunity to discover new places, sights and cultures is relished. Exploring used bookstores and finding a gem to read and study is treasured. When he and his wife are walking the streets of New York City, they love to enter the many beautiful churches, drink in the art work and sit in the holy Silence.
